Ode To My Family

by The Cranberries I really love this song
Understand the things I say, don’t turn away from me,
‘Cause I’ve spent half my life out there, you wouldn’t disagree.
Do you see me? Do you see? Do you like me?
Do you like me standing there? Do you notice?
Do you know? Do you see me? Do you see me?
Does anyone care?
Unhappiness where’s when I was young,
And we didn’t give a damn,
‘Cause we were raised,
To see life as fun and take it if we can.
My mother, my mother,
She hold me, she hold me, when I was out there.
My father, my father,
He liked me, oh, he liked me. Does anyone care?
Understand what I’ve become, it wasn’t my design.
And people ev’rywhere think, something better than I am.
But I miss you, I miss, ’cause I liked it,
‘Cause I liked it, when I was out there. Do you know this?
Do you know you did not find me. You did not find.
Does anyone care?
Unhappiness where’s when I was young,
And we didn’t give a damn,
‘Cause we were raised,
To see life as fun and take it if we can.
My mother, my mother,
She hold me, she hold me, when I was out there.
My father, my father,
He liked me, oh, he liked me.
Does anyone care?

The Body Song

I really love this song that Clem’s class was singing for their K2 graduation.
I have got fingers on my hands, I have got toes on my feet.
I have got skin on my bones and it keeps me neat.
I have got hair on my head and a bottom for a seat,
you will never find anyone who’s just like me!
I have got freckles on my face, I have got color in my cheeks,
I have got ears to listen and a mouth to speak.
I have got eyes in my head and a smiling set of teeth,
you will never find another one who’s just like me!
I have got muscles in my arms, I have got bumps on my knees,
I have got blood in my body and my lungs to breathe.
I have a brain in my head, and I am totally unique,
you will never find another one who’s just like me!
You will never find another one who’s just like me!

Charity movie : Late Autumn

I was invited to a charity movie viewing benefiting an organization called Zigen (translated to nourish root) for their “water-related” project in Shanxi. The money raised will go to the improvement of infrastructure of water shortage problems in two villages in Shanxi.

Some spoilers:
I have no preconceived idea of the movie and I watched it with an open arm. I loved the movie. It has a quirky character dynamic. Tang Wei played a love loss woman with an abusive husband and Hyun Bin portrayed a gigolo on the run from a client’s husband. The movie is trilingual in English, Korean and Chinese. The one scene I really loved in the movie was in the setting of a Chinese restaurant after Anna’s (Tang Wei) mother's funeral where everyone gathered for lunch. Hoon (Hyun Bin), Anna, were joined by Wang Jing (Jun-Seong Kim) and Wang Jing’s wife (Danni Lang) at the table. Wang Jing’s wife was asking Anna how China was (not knowing that Anna came out on bail from prison from killing her late abusive husband in self defense). Anna was about to respond, but was interrupted by Wang Jing (knowing what happened because he was the ex lover of Anna who had basically caused the whole situation to go out of control in their relationship) with stories about how everyone likes Anna or ask for Anna when she was working at this restaurant. Hoon then goes on with the story of how Anna and he met. Wang Jing’s wife was called away by the cry of her baby and Anna by her siblings leaving Hoon and Wang Jing at the table. Wang Jing asked Hoon how he met Anna and Hoon continued on with the fantasy story that was not good enough for Wang Jing to handle and a fight was stirred up. And Wang Jing tells Hoon to leave Anna alone cause she has gone through a tough time as it is. The fight escalated to punches and soon broken up by one of Anna siblings. Anna asked Hoon why they were fighting. And Hoon replied that Wang Jing took his fork without asking and used it. It was a very awkward moment, but yet humorous as Hoon delivers his line. There was a pause of silence and Anna then asked Wang Jing in a very serious manner why he had taken Hoon’s fork? And she fell down on the ground crying hysterically as Wang Jing apologized. Some people would say the chemistry of the main characters were off, but I say it suits the storyline. They are people who are lost in the world of wanting to be loved.

My first concert at the AsiaWorld-Arena

Jacky Cheung 1/2 Century Tour - Hong Kong

張學友1/2世紀演唱會最終站 - 香港

May 22, 2012

First off, Jacky Cheung is my favorite out of all the Hong Kong pop singers. And he is an oldies. Most of the audience were in their mid 20s to 60s. You gotta live the 80s and still be his fan.

The Arena is really huge, but I have to say the seating at HKD 600 a pop were not that great. I would rather go to the Hung Hom Coliseum. The stage was placed on the left and I was sitting facing the audience on the other side of the Arena and I basically had to turn my head to the left to watch the whole performance.

When the shows starts at 8:15PM it literally starts right on the dot. I didn't stay till the end cause after 2 hours my neck called it quit. But Jacky kept on singing till midnight. He really never stops singing not even an intermission break in between. It was just awesome even at the 149th concert tour. His last day will be May 30th, 2012.

Food deliveries in Hong Kong

So far I am liking South Stream Seafoods.
They have fresh veggies and fresh meats, some organics and some gluten free products which I love. The online stores opens up for ordering every Saturday noon til 11am Monday and they deliver right to your door. You pay by check, cash or paypal. Order up to HKD500 for free delivery.

Next Taste is pretty good at their delivery services. And I actually learned that they outsource to local delivery service and I actually know my delivery guy. He is pretty cool. The delivery guy only get HKD 25.00 per delivery paid by Taste ... Taste is cheap ass. Again order up to HKD 500 for free delivery, but seriously I rather pay the delivery guy some fair wages. I tip him every time he comes by.

Little Giant is also great. Since they are remodeling they lowered their delivery fee. So now they are also at HKD 500 for free delivery. They have a great product selection for anyone with certain type of allergies or food intolerance. Payments are made via paypal.

Shopping at H&M and UNIQLO

I never been to H&M when it opened up in the States, lo and behold, I went to the one at Festival Walk to shop for children clothes. I was looking for price of Old Navy with some cuteness and sass. They have tees for HKD 49 to 79 which ain't bad.

I never go scouting for clothes usually just for food so this is like my great find LOL.
Cute smurf tee for my son at HKD 99.

Then comes UNIQLO which I absolutely love. It is a Japanese company and they do have some flag stores in Manhattan, but of course I never knew until I came to Hong Kong. Currently they have Andy Warhol licensed tees. They are fabulous. And I think it truly fits into the spirit of Andy Warhol.
Each tees are HKD 129 with a slash price of HKD 99. I purchased a campbell soup and a brillo.

They also have some MoMa message tees.

Two great finds I never knew ... I feel like a country girl feeling giddy.

Thai food

We went on an adventure today to a street full of Thai restaurants and we stopped by Wong Chun Chun Thai Restaurant. Not the worst and not the best. We ordered mostly veggie dishes. And of course the waitress stressed on the fact that the meaty ones were more savory. But we gave the veggie curry a try. The taste of the curry was not too bad but the way it was made, I think they just tossed the boiled carrot, potato, taro etc in to the curry sauce that was it. The poor roots were bland and sad.

The fish cakes were okay, but inconsistency with taste, some were really spicy and some were not. And somehow I had all the spicy picked. We also had green papaya salad. It was not bad. That would be the only thing I go for if I do come back again to try their meaty dishes.

Craft scene : Megun Wong needle felting class

I got a group coupon from beecrazy. It is my first time doing felting and it is actually very time consuming considering what you have to do. Megun Wong is our instructor. She speaks really fast in Cantonese. I feel that as an instructor you really have to slow down to have the students absorb. I didn't find her informative at all which means I have seen better youtube video that provides better instructions with an enthusiastic teacher.

My cousin and I made Russian felt dolls. It was very deceiving because the dolls that Megun had on display were made with a finer Japanese wool and with a wool core. I understand that she is probably loosing money with those group coupon advertising to propel her business, but because she lacks the care with us the "group coupon students" vs the "full paying students" which makes me not want to go back to pay full price for the way she teaches. So that is just bad for business either way.

She was basically talking on the phone with her friend about what Chanel purse or bag she wants to buy and we couldn't even ask her for a better instruction. And leaving us stranded to figure out for ourselves how to stab the felting needles into styrofoam core with a rougher Chinese wool samples. And obviously we felt that we were incompetent overall first due to poor instructions and second due to poor materials.

Kids Fest Hong Kong 2012

Kids Fest Hong Kong started with a bang for the new year at the Drama Theater, Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts. From 10th Jan to 29th Jan. It is my first time attending all the Kids Fest stage plays for kids. We booked with ESF Wu Kai Sha last year for 16th of Jan to see We're going on a Bear Hunt. Can you imagine a bunch of 3 to 5 years old with parents in a theater? It was so much fun.

I took my kiddies to see all three shows during the Chinese New Year break.

We're going on a Bear Hunt was a hit for both my kiddies. With story, song and dance and audience participation.

My son loved The Tiger Who Came to Tea. I really love the magical touch of food disappearing off plates, cups and jugs when the Tiger ate and drank all the food and drink in Sophie's kitchen.

Stick Man was adorable with the stick family and their family tree and you follow the adventure of Stick Man with his mishaps and eventually ended in a happy note with Santa Claus taking him back home.

We will definitely look forward to next year Kids Fest.
